Apteekkarin yrttimaa on monivuotinen ympäristötaideprojekti,
jonka visuaalisen suunittelun hoidan vuosina 2001-2003. Apteekkarin yrttimaa sijaitsee Jämsänjoen
varrella Jämsän keskustan tuntumassa paikalla, jossa aikoinaan oli apteekkarin talon puutarha. Apteekkarin yrttimaassa tulee kasvamaan rohdosyrttejä, joita alueen asukkaat
voivat tulevina vuosina itse hoitaa ja hyödyntää.

Introduction
The Herb Garden of a Pharmacist is a projeckt taking place for several years. During the years 2001-2003 the visual artist Pertti Karjalainen takes care of planning the architekture of this garden. It is situated in the Middle Finland by the Jämsä river near the centrum of the city of Jämsä. In the place there used to be a house of a pharmacist. It is going to grow various medicinal herbs in the garden . The inhabitants of the city can pick and use these herbs free. After the work of the artist they can also take care of the Herb Garden of a Pharmacist by them selves and continue the life of this garden.

Apteekkarin yrttimaa 2001 / The Herb Garden of a Pharmacist 2001

Vuonna 2001 olen toteuttanut noin aarin kokoiselle alueelle neljä ympyränmuotoista kasvipenkkiä.

During the year 2001 the artist laid out a garden about one hundred square meters in area with four round beds for herbs

Kasvipenkkien ympärillä kiertää yhdeksän graniittikiveä sepelialustalla. Yhdessä graniittikivessä on lehden muotoinen kaiverrus. Kivistä muodostuu tulevina vuosina istuinpenkkejä.

Aroud the beds of the herb garden lays nine stone beches of granite. One of the stones has a gravure resembling the shape of a leaf. The stones compose a place to sit and rest.

Yrttimaalla kasvoi 26 eri rohdosyrttilajia vuonna 2001. Kuvassa etualalla iisoppi ja taustalla kehäkukka ja saksan kurjenmiekka.

In the summer 2001 there was growing 26 different medicinal herbs.
