Fumico Azuma.

Born Tokyo, Japan 9/6/46.
Mixed media and installation artist and musician. Materials are largely recycled and work generally focuses on environmental issues, especially the nuclear power station disaster at Chernobyl. Emphasis is also placed on making work that's easy to understand. The most important thing that can be passed onto the next generation is a safe and secure society. We live on a unique planet that needs to be respected and maintained.

1991 - 1995.

1995.
Solo exhibition entitled 'Black Energy', The Yamaguchi Gallery - Tokyo.

1996.
An exhibition of public art - Tokyo.

2000
Established arts co-op Tienda Primera in Barcelona with English mixed media artist Tim Can and Catalan painter Albert Tarrago Royo. Frontage of the building reconstructed and a new upper floor built, all from materials found on the streets. Co-op used as studio and also for exhibitions and various performance based events.

2000 - 2004
Doctor Zuzushii Monkey.
Experimental sound collage and performance with mixed media artists Tim Can and Oriol Sanchez. Playing at various venues in Barcelona and Madrid.

2001.
Exhibition at Ruta Dels Elefantes Gallery - Barcelona.
(joint show with Tim Can)

On going exhibitions and events at Tienda Primera - Barcelona, from 2002 - date.

2003.
Exhibition at Il Paneto Gallery - Barcelona.
(joint show with Tim Can)

Joint commission with Tim Can to build artwork using relics taken from privately owned (by journalist Placid Garcia-Planas) and semi ruined mansion in Sabadell. Artwork then installed into the newly restored building.

Another commission on similar lines for the owner of an 11th century castle, north of Barcelona.

2004.

Work donated to the 'Catalunya Fund For Cancer' auction, The Liceo Theatre - Barcelona.

Solo exhibition entitled 'Urban', Casa Elizalde Civic Centre - Barcelona.

2006.
Three week joint residency (with Tim Can) at the Design Festa Gallery - Tokyo.
Mixed media installation and performances with Zuzushii Monkey.

Formation of Zuzushii Monkey (with Tim Can). A continuation of Doctor Zuzushii Monkey, though without the Doctor. Ongoing performances at various experimental music venues throughout London. Also performances on resonance 104.4 fm radio and collaborations with film maker Alex Zdan.

2007.
Collective exhibition entitled 'Trigger'.
Greenwich Heritage Centre, Woolwich - London.
Mixed media installation.

Two week residency with Oranki Art group - Finland.
Environmental installation.

Correspondence course in commercial art, New York School of Art - 1966-1970.

Primary Teachers training at the Tokyo School of Art - 1970.

Established the Kodomo Bijutu Gaken Institute for Children's Art - Chiba Ken, Japan.
Director 1971-1986.

Flier and poster designs for the Southeast London Musicians Collective, Fordham Park Urban Free Festival (1991-93), Dole House Crew, the Pilot pub in Deptford, plus publicity for personal gigs and performances.

Music/performance with Bulbous Skunk Cabbages, Rubber Sunday, Chicken Sidecar, Wireless, Toys, Invisible Man, Plastic Bag Man.
